'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith renews clash with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he reminisces about the nail-biting closing stages of Swansea's remarkable turnaround win against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The encounter wrapped up with Galbraith picking up a fan's glasses amid the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith cracked the upright with a powerful shot from 25 yards, and the defender promptly converted the deflection before sprinting toward the crowd to celebrate, with the crowd congregating around the players.

Stunning Reversal

The result capped an incredible recovery given the team had been behind 2-0 midway through the latter period. During the celebrations, there was some unintended consequences. The midfielder recalled, "There was a fan sort of calling out and we were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're people, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

That win secured a fourth-round game at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith came close against at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with the London side in February. He had a prime vantage point when Orient took the lead in stunning style, with the attacker's long-range effort from about 45 yards going in via the crossbar and the City goalkeeper. It seems unfair that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've credited him for attempting the shot from that range," commented Galbraith, who started in midfield before moving to right flank after Orient changed tactics. That meant competing with City's winger, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the player was among the Manchester squad who complimented the way the underdogs attacked the game.

Opponent's Class

"Athletically they are outstanding but even the basics and basic skills, they can just execute repeatedly," he explains. "It feels like they complete every delivery and they understand how to control and slow down a game. You can feel you're all right and then suddenly they will just thread a ball between defenders without you even spotting it. You have to be focused throughout of the game. It demands a strong mentality and attention just to keep pace."

Welsh Transition

The club were keen on Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to sign him in the summer in a significant move. He made a name as a fans' favourite across multiple campaigns at Orient and has rapidly achieved similar status in his new home. At his previous team he joined forces once more with his former manager, who earlier gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in professional games on loan at his loan club from Manchester United. Then came a spell at lower division Salford City, before he departed Old Trafford.

Learning Curve

"I was probably a somewhat inexperienced going into men's football. I think many athletes would say youth team games is entirely separate. Sometimes it feels like the ball is moved without serious challenge. There are limited physical contests. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adjust fast."

National Team Success

He has demonstrated that maturation for both domestically and internationally, excelling for his national side, who remain in contention for the international competition next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has featured in the past five games, including home and away encounters against a football powerhouse. His former international manager, Galbraith's former international manager, paid him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he controls possession and his eye for a game-changing assist.

Humble Beginnings

This marks an incredible journey for the youngster from the local area in the Belfast suburb, just outside the capital, who was raised observing his parent, the elder Galbraith, also a central player, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Old Trafford Memory

The player's only game for Manchester United came in Central Asia in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the Kazakh capital, where they competed on an artificial pitch and the stadium roof was shut owing to the weather of freezing cold. "It was a lengthy journey and it was cold out there," he comments, grinning. "The days leading up, myself and quite a few of the young lads worked out jointly, so that aided our adjustment. Just to accompany the senior squad and earn some playing time at the end was unbelievable."

Leaving United

How hard was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he joined from Linfield aged a teenager? "The decision proved fairly simple, because I got to the stage where I knew I wasn't going to make it at the senior squad. I'm very appreciative for the time I spent there but it became apparent where I felt I had to take a different path, drop down the leagues and play first-team games. Now I'm steadily progressing again."

Life in Swansea

This occurs during the early part of the afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has somewhere to be at 5pm: a learner's exam, another progress toward getting on the road. Before his recent move to Sketty, the mid-twenties player was a frequent passenger in Swansea's nicknamed player transport, a small coach driven by academy staff, the transport team, which transports players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"My companions include the Portuguese player, the Brazilian, an Ivorian player – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's nice to spend time with the teammates but I'm hoping to be the following person out of the minibus and driving. The Portuguese player likes to pull a few pranks; he's constantly causing mischief."

Public Engagement

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside followers on the Tube after commuting at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
