The Former President's System of Consequences and Incentives

Donald Trump's voracious urge for payback has rapidly evolved into a structured system. During the year since his election, the leader's rage and caprices have assumed the shape of government actions similar to comparable to past dictatorial governments. Federal officials who do not cooperate are promptly removed and substituted by devotees. Critical officials who question him encounter legal action, judicial process and punishment. Critics have been categorized under administration memoranda as “anti-American”, “opposed to religious values” and “anti-capitalist”, and menaced with criminal charges as “extremists”.

The Justice System Restructured

Every case involving legal action of Trump's enemies and leniency for supporters demonstrates its own unique features. However, notwithstanding their specific form, they exemplify examples of what has developed as a deliberate method. Such episodes are not coincidental. The administration's cleansing of federal prosecutors and Federal Bureau of Investigation officials, accompanied by his installation of devotees in key positions, started swiftly, promptly developed a regularity, and has now been formed into a structure. Federal prosecutors and the Federal Bureau have been remade into ideological bodies under Trump's explicit direction to execute his demands. Unfairness has been turned into routine. It represents the retribution system.

Leadership is focused with penalizing the leader's alleged opponents than they are with protecting our country's safety.

Within the Structure

The beginnings of this mechanism has been exposed in the lawsuit of several former high-ranking Federal Bureau executives lodged in September in the federal court in Washington against FBI director an administration figure and attorney general a key figure for unlawful firing in “a campaign of retribution against Plaintiffs for what administration figures deemed to be a failure to demonstrate adequate devotion”. The document states that Brian Driscoll, the previous acting FBI director, recounts a conversation in which he “freely confessed the unlawfulness of his conduct”.

He had tried to shield agency personnel from being fired, the complaint states. He advised him that “White House figures” – interpreted by him to be the presidential administration and justice department – had instructed him to fire all those who they identified as having worked on a law enforcement case against him. The complaint adds: “The director clarified that he had to dismiss the individuals his superiors told him to fire, because his capacity to keep his own job depended on the removal of the officials who handled matters involving the President. Patel explained that there was no way he or Driscoll could do to halt these or any other dismissals, because ‘the FBI tried to put the leader in prison and he recalls it clearly.’” When Driscoll informed Patel he was disregarding the FBI's own regulations, the director supposedly said “he knew that and he realized the nature of the immediate dismissals were probably illegal”.

Broad Effects

Following Patel's alleged acknowledgment to the official, the DoJ and the law enforcement agency have been gutted and reorganized for his system of punishment. Six of the FBI's top officials were terminated or compelled to leave in the first days of the government. About thousands of legal professionals at the justice department have agreed to a “voluntary departure plan”. At least seven DoJ lawyers, among them those in the southern district of New York, quit in objection over what they viewed as ideological pressure in withdrawing the legal action against the New York City mayor, Eric Adams, in as a trade for his cooperation with Trump's ICE roundups of foreign nationals. The anti-corruption unit of DoJ, which manages corruption cases, has been diminished to a handful of lawyers. The civil rights division has been decimated: seventy percent of its staff has departed. One-third of top officials at the department have left. The unit enforcing environmental law has experienced the exit of a majority its management.

Incentives and Sanctions

Concerning the legal matter, the temporary lawyer for the federal division, she, resigned in dissent against what she described as the “exchange”. A key figure, his “enforcement chief,” was present as the enforcer with him on television to state: “Should he fail to deliver, I'll be back in the city.”. And, another figure, previously the acting deputy attorney general and a former Trump attorney, who negotiated the agreement, was granted an appellate federal judgeship, a likely pathway to the highest court.

The president's exemption for offenses carried out while in government, granted by the extraordinary decision of the GOP-led on the highest court, thus preventing his legal action over the Capitol riot and safeguarding his public standing for the 2024 election, is the foundation stone on which he relies to protect his supporters. Given this protection, he has been empowered to enable misconduct. The consequence of the supreme court decision infuses his presidency and the GOP completely. The legal case has spread.
